GATEWAY AVIATION, located in Ballico, California, is a veteran-owned and operated flight school serving the aspiring aviators of Merced and Stanislaus Counties. Our mission is to provide top-tier flight training with industry-leading instruction, ensuring that each student receives the best experience possible.
As a Part 61 flight school, we offer a wide range of programs, from Private Pilot License (PPL) training to advanced certifications like Instrument Ratings, Commercial Single, and CFI/CFII. Our training programs are designed to provide both comprehensive knowledge and extensive hands-on experience, preparing students for checkrides and real-world aviation challenges.
In addition to our structured training, Gateway Aviation offers a versatile fleet of aircraft, including the Cessna 172 and Cessna 210. These aircraft are available for both training and rental.

About The Founder
Richard Garcia is the visionary behind Gateway Aviation, holding the esteemed Gold Seal CFI, CFII, and MEI certifications. With deep roots in Merced County, his journey in aviation is marked by experiences, from serving over eight years in the Army with tours across Iraq, Syria, and Europe to advancing his education in aviation at Purdue University. This blend of military discipline, international exposure, and academic excellence supports his approach to flight instruction.
Currently, he pilots for an airline, embodying the highest standards of professionalism and expertise. His passion for aviation extends beyond the cockpit; he is dedicated to educating the next generation of pilots, driven by a belief in the transformative power of quality flight training.
